Students riding a bus should always:
Arrive at the bus stop five minutes early.
Stand at least 6 giant steps (12 feet) away from the edge of the road.
Wait until the bus stops, the door opens, and the driver motions you it’s ok before stepping onto the bus.
NEVER cross the road until the driver motions for you to do so.
ALWAYS look both ways before entering and exiting the bus and when crossing the road.
Be careful that clothing with drawstrings, book bags with straps, or dangling objects do not get caught in the
handrial or doorway when exiting the bus.
Crossing students should:
Walk in front of the bus; never walk behind the bus.
Walk on the sidewalk or along the side of the road to a point at least 6 giant steps (12 feet) ahead of the bus.
Wait at the end of the cross gate!
Wait for the driver to motion you and walk to the center of the road.
Wait for the driver to motion you again, look both ways for traffic, then cross the road.
Don't stop walking until you are at least 12 feet away from the road!
